We lost our minds

We have lost our freaking minds and bought a fixit upper in St. Augustine, FL. The kids have named it the Schitts Creek Hovel except they don’t spell it like the tv show. They are not wrong currently, but we have a vision and we love the area. We are ten minutes away from family and just a few miles from the beach.  We had lived in the same house for 46 years, remodeling several times to finally create a comfortable pool home situated on about three acres. But...We hated the drive to St Augustine and it was just the two of us in a 4000 sqft house. We are not young. That's all I am going to say about that. I loved the house and miss it everyday but I feel confident (somedays) that we can make this one into something we love too. And being close enough to see some of our kids everyday is wonderful. The beach isn't bad either. Comfy country pool home traded in for a horrifying, three-years-abandoned home with weird sauna, full of stinky furniture and a sca...

It's been a year since I've posted. We became overwhelmed and had to focus on getting the place nice enough to live in. It still needs things, but it's clean and comfortable now. We will get to gutters, new fencing, pavers and a cocktail pool later, or maybe not. Do I really want to go back to work? Hell no! But there's a wish list. And if I had the right job I could enjoy working again. Not in education though. Here's some before and after pictures. It's been a wild year but the best part is being able to be near some of our kids and grandkids. We get to keep the youngest two grands frequently and those precious times are worth all the trouble. St.Augustine has its challenges ( hurricanes, traffic and overbuilding to name a few) but we like it here.

New Roof!

A crew of hard working, polite, knowledgeable young men from Strickland Roofing put on our new roof last week. They did a great job. They also played soccer during lunch, much to Motown's joy She has missed playing ball every day.

termite damage

Since we are having the water lines in the house replaced the plumbers are cutting holes in the walls behind the pipes to the bathrooms and kitchen. They found some termite damage. The good news is it's old damage and not active. The house was treated several years ago and was probably under contract after that. The bad news is there's a good bit of damage. But it could be worse. Termite treatment and wood replacement have been added to the budget sheet. At least its easy for the exterminator to treat right now since the area is exposed around the floor where the pipes and termites enter the house. Bugs found in the attic were ants and not termites so that was good news too.  In other news the kitchen has been cleared and demolished. The cabinets are being refinished and rearranged but they are made of nice heavy wood. Worth saving.
