We have lost our freaking minds and bought a fixit upper in St. Augustine, FL. The kids have named it the Schitts Creek Hovel except they don’t spell it like the tv show. They are not wrong currently, but we have a vision and we love the area. We are ten minutes away from family and just a few miles from the beach. We had lived in the same house for 46 years, remodeling several times to finally create a comfortable pool home situated on about three acres. But...We hated the drive to St Augustine and it was just the two of us in a 4000 sqft house. We are not young. That's all I am going to say about that. I loved the house and miss it everyday but I feel confident (somedays) that we can make this one into something we love too. And being close enough to see some of our kids everyday is wonderful. The beach isn't bad either.
Comfy country pool home traded in for a horrifying, three-years-abandoned home with weird sauna, full of stinky furniture and a scary history in a nice wooded neighborhood. Makes perfect sense! Good news is we are not sitting on the sofa too much anymore. They say you should buy the worse house in the neighborhood to improve if you want to increase equity quickly. We definitely got the "worse house" part right. Now to see what we can do. We are retired for the most part, living on the dole, definitely not pros, but we have a good carpenter with lots of connections. And we have kids to help. Should be fun, right?
I'll share before and after pictures here. I'm not sharing the ones with all the former owner's belongings in there. It was just too sad and stinky. Trying to block those images from my mind!
Notice bullet holes in turquoise door? I told you it had some questionable history. Plan to replace it with this. New door won't be in for 63 days so guess we will live with bullet holes until. Planning a sage bonfire before moving in.
